Early Readers & Writers: Building Strong Foundations

This course is designed for kindergarten to 2nd-grade students to build a strong foundation in reading and writing through engaging and interactive activities. Students will read age-appropriate books, explore story elements such as characters, events, and key details, and practice expressing their ideas through drawing, storytelling, and simple writing exercises. By participating in group discussions and hands-on projects, students will improve comprehension skills, expand their vocabulary, and develop early writing abilities. By the end of the course, they will feel more confident and enthusiastic about reading and writing, setting the stage for continued academic growth.

Goals and Outcomes:

  • Develop comprehension skills by identifying characters, events, and main ideas in stories.

Students will explore exciting, age-appropriate books to enhance comprehension and vocabulary while developing their ability to analyze characters and understand plot structure. They will also work on creative projects like writing short stories, crafting book reviews, and summarizing texts in their own words. By the end of the course, students will gain confidence in their reading and writing abilities, preparing them for academic success and inspiring a lasting love for literature.
